newborn session promotion!

Are you ready for my first promotion of 2012? Ok, here it is: I’m offering 50% off newborn sessions booked in the months of March and April. The sessions only have to be booked in these two months to receive the discount but can take place anytime from March 2012 through June 2012. The newborn sessions I offer are alike in style to the family sessions I offer, meaning they are candid, natural, and real and will capture your family interacting with your new little one in the comfort of your home environment. I will photograph your little one on his or her own as well, swaddled in a favorite blanket, or in a special place in your home that is meaningful for you, and capture all the special newborn details like tiny hands and feet and yawns, but I will not bring along any props of my choosing. I have nothing against photographers who use a variety of props (baskets, hammocks, etc.) with newborns – there is some excellent newborn photography out there of that nature. But it’s just not the style that is comfortable for me. The photo above (with some of my favorite clients, the “C” family) is an example of the type of photographs a newborn session with me would produce. If this is what you envision for you and your little one, please contact me via my website contact page or by phone or email for more details.
For a true newborn session, it’s best to hold the session within the first two weeks of life, so please factor that into your decision of when to book. Also, a word to all of the beautiful mothers out there who might be thinking that they would never dream of being photographed so soon after having a baby: I know the feeling all too well. In general, I do not enjoy being the subject of photographs because I don’t consider myself photogenic and typically dislike how I look in photographs 95% of the time. I’m working on this, mainly because I want my children to see me with them in photographs — to know that I was there, and so that I can know I was there, in the mix, and not hiding behind the camera. I think it’s a simple gift you can give to your kids: to be in pictures with them so that they have the memories to look back on. And what better gift than to have your child be able to look back and see YOU as you held them and loved them as you welcomed them into the world.
Wow…that was a soapbox and quite a hefty tangent. Sorry about that. I do that…often. But, I do want to do more posts on the subject of how we, in particular women, see (and judge) ourselves, especially our physical appearance. It’s something I’m committed to exploring (personally) and part of the reason I want to push myself to begin a self-portrait project (biting nails now). I’d love to hear what others think on this subject as well, so drop me a line or leave a comment in the section below.
But, to take us back to the original intention of this blog post…I want to photograph you and your family and your sweet, snuggly little newborn! So drop me a line. I’d love to hear from you.
Happy Thursday…this week’s been a march if there ever was one, but Friday’s almost here. So glad.
What beautiful words…i am not in very many pictures with my kids as newborns…
